Report: Crystal Palace want to sign £9m "unsung hero" who Daniel Munoz and Jefferson Lerma know well

This summer Crystal Palace has some real priority positions which simply must be strengthened, but the biggest will be in the event of sales.

For Oliver Glasner, the biggest blow this summer would be in the form of losing one or more of his star players.

Unfortunately, this already seems a likely prospect as clubs begin to hone in on Michael Olise. Alongside this, interest in Ebere Eze and Marc Guehi could come back to life after the Euros.

With Olise looking the most likely to leave, now yet another potential replacement has been linked, and one or two Crystal Palace players know him well.

Crystal Palace one of three clubs keen on Jhon Arias

With right-wingers being among the most linked to Palace this summer, it isn’t a shock to see another name tipped as having interest.

According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, as quoted by NetFlu, Jhon Arias is once again being discussed as an option for Palace.

He explains that the Premier League is the likeliest destination, with the Eagles joined by Fulham and West Ham as interested parties in the Colombian international.

This isn’t the first time Arias’ name has been connected with Crystal Palace after he was linked in April, which stated a possible £9m fee would be required.

Even longer ago in October 2023, Palace were said to be about to scout Arias at the Copa Libertadores. So a move wouldn’t be surprising with such long-standing interest.

Who is Jhon Arias?

While Arias may not be a familiar name with every supporter, he’s certainly familiar to Daniel Munoz and Jefferson Lerma with the three playing together for Colombia. While Chris Richards will also remember him as he scored against the USA in a 5-1 win last weekend.

Arias has been heralded as being Fluminense’s “unsung hero” previously by South American football expert Nathan Joyes. In 2023, Arias scored seven and assisted seven in 29 appearances for the Brazilian outfit.

2024 has started slowly for the 26-year-old, however, his quality is undoubted and it seems very likely he’ll be in Europe next season, but we will have to wait and see if it is Selhurst Park that he calls home.
