Report: Chelsea in the race to sign 'phenomenal' attacker likely to move, he's available for just £17m

Chelsea are reportedly in the transfer race to sign an attacker who ripped up their respective division last season.

The Blues are being linked with several different strikers this summer as they search for another No 9.

For example, Aston Villa’s 20-year old-forward Jhon Duran is hotly tipped for a potential move to Stamford Bridge. The Telegraph even reports that Chelsea have broadly agreed a deal to sign £40m-rated youngster Duran.

He’s not the only name rumoured to be on Chelsea’s radar, though.

Chelsea in transfer battle for goal machine

Bild claims that Chelsea are one of several clubs interested in signing German Bundesliga star Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart.

It is understood that the Blues are up against Arsenal, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund to sign the 28-year-old striker.

The report explains that Guirassy is ‘unlikely’ to stay at Stuttgart despite being happy there.

Apparently, interested clubs can sign him for a ‘bargain price’ of €18-20m (£15-£17m).

It is believed that the Guinea his future decided before the end of June.

When you consider that Guirassy scored 30 goals in 30 games across all competitions last season for Stuttgart, it’s remarkable that he’s available for £17m or less.

He finished second in the golden boot race in the Bundesliga for his 28 league goals. Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane was the only player to score more in the German top division last season (36).

Serhou Guirassy is a better risk than Jhon Duran

Guirassy’s stunning 2023/24 campaign it is a bit of an anomaly when you compare to the rest of his career so far. But aged 28, it looks like he’s hit his prime and he was the complete forward last year.

Described as “phenomenal” by Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness via the official website, Guirassy could be a huge bargain if you adapt to the Premier League in a similar way to the Bundesliga.

He’ll cost less than half the price of Villa’s inexperienced and raw striker Duran, so we definitely looks like the smarter buy.

Let’s see if Chelsea decided to ramp up their interest in the Stuttgart man because it sounds like they’re running out of time if they really want him.
