Journalist makes intriguing prediction about Nottingham Forest star bidding for Euro 2024 glory

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels is preparing for Euro 2024 with Belgium and now a popular magazine has made an intriguing claim.

Sels signed for Forest from Strasbourg in January amid some alarming form by Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

The 32-year-old cost just £5 million and he was a mainstay in the team after joining on transfer deadline day.

His form has been so good that he’s earned himself a place in the Belgium squad for Euro 2024.

Now, one journalist who writes for a top magazine has made an intriguing prediction on Forest star Sels.

Journalist makes prediction about Forest star Matz Sels

It’s been quite a few months for Sels since he signed for Forest during the January transfer window.

In March, he produced the goods against the Republic of Ireland and England, with Sels earning rave reviews from the media.

Now, World Soccer journalist Nick Bidwell believes that Sels might be in line to claim the gloves for the Euro 2024 campaign.

He’s been named as one of the 50 players to watch at the tournament which got underway on Friday.

Bidwell said in the latest issue of World Soccer: “Thanks to his outstanding displays in the Euro 2024 warm-up fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and England, the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper may well have edged in front of Wolfsburg’s Koen Casteels in the pecking order.”

Sels deserves to be Forest number one next season

Had Forest signed Sels in the summer, they’d have saved some serious cash, whilst they’d have likely stayed up at a canter.

Sels was in fine form during the second half of the season and as a result, he deserves the chance to keep the gloves next season.

Forest have been heavily linked with Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel and his arrival would add some competition for a place.

However, Sels has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent months and that could reach a climax with him getting the nod to keep goal for Belgium at Euro 2024.

If that decision is made, his stock would only continue to rise.

With that in mind, Forest would have the number one goalkeeper for one of the top national sides in the world and surely he’d have to keep his place next season.

Sels is clearly fancied by Nuno Espirito Santo and he will hope to produce the goods should he get the nod to play for Belgium this month.
