'On their list': Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal are watching 'outstanding' £33m Euro 2024 star very closely

A lot is being made of Arsenal’s intentions in this summer’s transfer market and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed one Euro 2024 star is on their list.

Mikel Arteta wants to add new players to his squad after just coming up short in the title race with Manchester City last season.

So far, we’ve seen a number of names in different positions all be linked with a move to The Emirates.

The likes of Martin Zubimendi continue to get a mention, while up top, strikers like Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have been heavily linked.

However, according to Romano, it is a player closer to home who is on Arsenal’s radar.

Arsenal have Amadou Onana on their list of potential summer signings

There have been conflicting reports when it comes to Onana and Arsenal.

Some have suggested the Gunners are surprised at links, while others have suggested contact has been made between parties.

And speaking for GiveMeSport, journalist Romano has confirmed that Onana is indeed a player of interest to the Gunners.

“Still, it’s also important to say that Everton expect movement for Onana. We’ve had rumours about Arsenal but at the moment they have not received any formal proposal.

“Arsenal have been tracking Onana, he’s a player on their list, also last summer and in January, though they decided not to enter into conversations.

“Arsenal keep monitoring Onana but at the moment there is nothing in terms of direct contacts, so let’s see what happens, but for Everton the expectation is for some clubs to move for the Belgian midfielder.”

Onana saga to drag on all summer

Given Everton’s financial situation and the fact Arsenal have been linked with Onana for so long now, this one is going to rumble on for some time you feel.

The £33m signing has done well with Everton and arguably deserves better than fighting relegation.

The Euros, though, will be a big test for Onana and it could give him the chance to prove he really is the man for the big occasion and big teams.

Lauded by Darren Bent as an ‘outstanding‘ midfield player, Onana does tick boxes for the Gunners.

But whether they’ll pull the trigger or not, remains to be seen.
