Report: How Manchester United stance could result in Newcastle United losing Yankuba Minteh

Newcastle United need to sell this month, and one of the players they are willing to let go has an admirer.

The Magpies need to move someone on before June 30th to appease the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, but it remains unclear who will depart.

In a perfect world, Newcastle United will get rid of someone who is no longer a key player for Eddie Howe but could still fetch a decent transfer fee, like Miguel Almiron or Callum Wilson. The one thing they won’t do is sell Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak, despite the massive amount of money they would bring in.

The alternative is cashing in on a youngster who has never kicked a ball for Newcastle United, but could develop into a top level winger.

Newcastle willing to sell Yankuba Minteh

The man in question is Yankuba Minteh, who the Magpies are reluctantly willing to sell this summer as they aim to stay the right side of PSR.

They will listen to offers for the 19-year-old, who is set to get a chance in pre-season after a spectacular campaign on loan at Feyenoord.

Minteh is attracting interest, which is why Toon officials will at least consider any offers that come their way for the winger, who they value at £40million according to the Telegraph.

Borussia Dortmund interested in Minteh

Now a suitor has emerged in Germany, with Borussia Dortmund linked.

That is according to Sky Germany journalist Patrick Berger, who claims that Minteh is one of three players on Dortmund’s radar heading into the summer transfer window. The other two that are listed are midfielder Jerdy Schouten and defender Ferdi Kadıoğlu.

In terms of Minteh, Berger adds that the Gambia international is a player who Dortmund will consider if they fail to sign Jadon Sancho permanently from Manchester United or if Karim Adeyemi or Donyell Malen leave the Bundesliga club.

How Man United may impact Newcastle’s transfer decision

That means that Minteh’s Newcastle future might be dependent on Manchester United.

Sancho has spent the second half of the season on loan at Dortmund and has looked reborn, but a permanent move back is deemed unlikely due to the Red Devils’ £40million asking price.

That could force Dortmund to look elsewhere for a winger, and it seems as though they have got Minteh lined up as a possible alternative.

In short, Man United could force Newcastle to lose Minteh, which would be a great shame given how much potential he has. Selling him would be hugely disappointing, having only bought him last year for around £6million.

The only saving grace is that if Dortmund are not going to pay £40million for Sancho then they are not going to pay £40million for Minteh, which is how much Newcastle are looking for.

Of course, there is the possibility that the Magpies agree to sell him for less than that, as £40million does feel like an extremely lofty asking price.
