Thatcham Town allowing ‘12th Man’ supporter donations as part of ‘community push’

Thatcham Town Football Club have announced a new ‘12th Man Fund’ in an effort to boost their budget ahead of a challenging new season.

Last week, a rejected appeal confirmed that Thatcham will have to travel to away days in Devon and Cornwall, resulting in a 110-per-cent increase in travel costs.

Manager Yashwa Romeo called for a “community push”, with the first steps being taken this week.

Chairman Paul Ayres has announced the new scheme which will allow supporters to donate any amount of their choosing to a new fan-fund.

Thatcham Town are taking multiple steps to raise revenues ahead of an extraordinary season

“We’re asking our dedicated supporters to donate and become our ‘12th Man’ this season”, said Ayres.

“All funds raised will go 100% towards covering these travel expenses.

“Our fans are the lifeblood of the club, always supporting us on the pitch, and now we ask for your continued support off the pitch.”

Ayres said last week how “this year we’ve got to push past our normal revenues”.

Initiatives such as this are popular with many non-league clubs, who often face uncertain income streams and have seen operating costs rise in recent seasons.

Alongside this, the club will be “streamlining club operations, from spending to waste, and evaluating costs and prices”, as well as introducing a new commercial brochure to attract potential new sponsors.
