Declan Rice says £22m midfielder Tottenham want to sign is so 'silky'

Arsenal star Declan Rice seems really impressed with one player Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing this summer.

Spurs have a great first-eleven of players in their squad, but in order to go to the next level, they will have to strengthen their side in this window.

Ange Postecoglou did a brilliant job in his debut season in North London, but the way Tottenham finished the season – two wins in their last seven games – showed there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Spurs have already re-signed Timo Werner on another loan deal, but they could do with a top-quality midfielder as well in the next two months.

One player Tottenham are keeping an eye on appears to have caught Rice’s eye.

Declan Rice delivers verdict on Tottenham target Adam Wharton

Adam Wharton has been a revelation in the Premier League.

The talented midfielder joined Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January 2024 in a deal worth up to £22 million (Sky Sports).

Despite only playing half a season in the English top flight, Wharton has become a household name and even earned a call-up to England’s Euro 2024 squad.

The 20-year-old’s performances at Selhurst Park haven’t gone unnoticed. He is on the radar of a number of top clubs in England, including Tottenham Hotspur.

TBR Football exclusively revealed in May that Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle are the Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on Wharton.

European giants Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus also remain keen on the Crystal Palace star.

Wharton would be a great option for Tottenham, and Arsenal star Rice, who is one of the best midfielders in the world, is a big fan of him.

In a video on England’s social channels, Rice was asked to describe Wharton using just one word.

“Silky,” he replied.

Wharton could solve key Tottenham issue for a decade

Crystal Palace will not want to lose Wharton after just six months of signing him.

However, the Englishman is a spectacular talent and is destined to play for one of the top clubs in the country at some point in his career.

Tottenham have Yves Bissouma as their number six at the moment, while Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr can also play there if required.

All three of the above players had their struggles in the 2023/24 season, which has made that defensive midfield role a big issue for Spurs.

20-year-old Wharton, in our opinion, is a better option in a number six role than all of the above players, and signing him would solve Tottenham’s issue in midfield for the next decade.
