Report: Ange Postecoglou has now approved club-record move for Tottenham to sign player Arsenal released

Ange Postecoglou has now approved a club-record move for Tottenham to sign a player Arsenal once released.

By the sounds of it, Daniel Levy is prepared to spend heavily and back the Australian after a promising 2023/24 campaign – which saw Spurs sit top of the Premier League unbeaten after eight games.

So, which Tottenham target has Ange Postecoglou now given the green light for Spurs to sign? Let’s take a look…

Ange Postecoglou approves Ebere Eze deal

A story from TEAMtalk now claims that the 58-year-old has given approval for Tottenham to spend a club-record £68m on Crystal Palace No.10 Ebere Eze.

The England international – who Arsenal released at the age of 13 in 2011 – has caught the eye of Spurs after a stunning 2023/24 campaign, in which he scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 27 Premier League appearances.

TEAMtalk believe Tottenham will hand Crystal Palace a guaranteed £60m for Eze along with £8m paid in bonuses, which means – if a final agreement materialises – Spurs will have a new record signing, surpassing the £53.8m spent on Tanguy Ndombele back in 2019.

A separate story from Football Transfers adds that Spurs will hold a meeting about the 25-year-old later this week, as Postecoglou targets his first major deal of the summer.

Tottenham approach has been coming

This development has not simply emerged from nowhere.

Tottenham even arranged a private box for Eze’s entourage when Crystal Palace suffered a 3-1 defeat against the north Londoners back in March, with the man from Greenwich then seen chatting at length with Spurs players to add more fuel to the fire.

Something has seemingly been brewing in the background for months, and now, it sounds as if Tottenham are preparing to step up their pursuit of the Crystal Palace star, who is interestingly represented by CAA Base – an agency close to Spurs who also work for James Maddison, Heung-min Son, Pape Matar Sarr and Pedro Porro.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, although major developments – such as a medical – are unlikely to take place until Eze returns from UEFA EURO 2024 duty with England.
