N.J. woman convicted in killing of 25-year-old man

An Essex County woman was convicted in the 2022 murder of a Bloomfield man this week, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens said Tuesday.

Itiyanaha Spruill, 30, of Newark was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the killing of Lance Sally Jr. The 25-year-old man was found by police on Nov. 30, 2022, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said Spruill lured Sally to the homicide location and drove the vehicle used in the incident. Police found Sally on the 100 block of Salem Street in Newark around 7:35 p.m. He died 20 minutes after he was found.

Spruill previously spent one year in jail after pleading guilty to second-degree child endangerment charges in 2016 after her 5-year-old son accidentally shot and killed his younger brother.

Spruill faces 30 years to life in prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 12. Her attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
