Spoiler alert! We’ve got details of new luxury Everyman Cambridge cinema in the Grand Arcade

More details have been revealed about the new Everyman cinema coming to Cambridge this autumn.

The luxury cinema, being constructed in the Grand Arcade shopping centre, will have five screens with a total of 328 seats.

How the bar at Everyman Cambridge could look

The company is promising each screen will have “state-of-the-art technology for high quality viewings” and will be “fitted with Everyman’s soft and luxurious velvet sofas and armchairs for ultimate comfort”.

Promising a mixture of blockbusters, independent and international cinema and live screenings, the cinema will also have an “extensive lounge area and a fully operating bar serving speciality wine, beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic options”.

Cinema-goers will be able to order their food and drink and have it served directly to their seat while they watch a movie.

Cocktails such as Everyman’s spicy ‘PicantE’ and Smoked Pineapple Margarita will be on offer while the menu will include hand-stretched pizzas, premium burgers from Everyman’s ‘Spielburger’ offering and small plates including buttermilk chicken, tempura prawns and hot honey halloumi.

Plant-based options are also promised, including a vegan dog or padron peppers, while milkshakes, warm cookie dough and build-your-own sundaes will cater for those with sweet tooths,

The 46th venue to be opened by Everyman will also be available for private screenings and cinema hire, enabling special film showings or corporate events.

With the industry currently fretting over ‘soft’ box office numbers this year that cannot match the phenomenon created by the simultaneous release last year of Barbie and Oppenheimer, the company will be hoping its luxurious offer will help it draw in the crowds.

The Cambridge Independent’s film critic, Mark Walsh, said: “The cinema box office in the UK is down 29% year on year for May and early June. Last year, we had Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, The Little Mermaid, Fast X and Spider-Man: Across The Spider Verse, the last two of which should have had sequels this year. But those films, and other big franchise films, have all been delayed because of the actor and writer’s strikes in the US and so far the alternatives this year are not tempting people into the cinemas in the same way.

“With five screens, I hope that the Everyman will offer choice, not only in terms of the range of films being show, but of the experience available to audiences.

“Everyman’s offering is more focused around food and drink as part of the experience, and visiting one of their cinemas can feel more like an evening out, but with the cost that comes with that.

“The balance Everyman need to strike is making sure the film doesn’t feel like an afterthought to that evening out. But hopefully, with 25 screens across four cinemas in or close to the city centre, each can thrive and find their own audience and offer Cambridge audiences great choices of both what to watch and how they watch it.”
