Premier League club are now pushing to sign Chelsea player with 'enormous potential' - journalist

Aston Villa are reportedly pushing to sign one Chelsea player this summer.

The Premier League rivals have been closely associated to each other so far during this transfer window, largely because of the ongoing saga regarding Jhon Duran.

Villa striker Duran, 20, has been strongly linked with a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

However, Football London now claims that Chelsea have cooled their interest in signing Duran.

It’s now claimed elsewhere that Villa are attempting to sign a Blues player.

Aston Villa pushing to sign Chelsea player

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed via X on Wednesday that Aston Villa are ‘pushing’ to sign Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen.

It is understood that Unai Emery’s side are looking at the 22 year old Blues defender as a summer target.

Romano explains that Villa have already discussed Maatsen during the talks for Duran.

The Telegraph reported last week that Villa had enquired about signing Chelsea’s Maatsen, who’s got a £35m release clause in his deal at Stamford Bridge.

It now sounds like the Midlands club are stepping up their interest to sign the Dutch left-back as they prepare for next season in t he Champions League.

Ian Maatsen could be one that gets away

Maatsen’s proved last season during a short-term loan in Borussia Dortmund colours that he’s got huge quality.

The attack-minded full-back would certainly be a shrewd signing for Villa if they can pull it off.

Speaking via Football.London in July last year, Mauricio Pochettino described Maatsen as a talented youngster with “enormous potential”. We do fear that he could go on to big things elsewhere.

As for Chelsea, Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella are the two senior left-backs at the club vying to impress new head coach Enzo Maresca.
