TV actor and stand-up comedian Hiram Kasten recently died at 71, urging fans to reminisce upon his impressive and layered career.

Not only was he known to get big laughs for his work as a stand-up comic, but he was also a TV actor who appeared on some seriously popular shows. Seinfeld actor and comedian Hiram Kasten dies at 71

Alerting those who knew him, Hiram Kasten’s family took to his Facebook page to announce his passing at 71.

Although they didn’t disclose the cause of death, they explained he had been “fighting through a multitude of illnesses” in recent years, and this sadly included “prostate cancer.” In more recent months, his close friends and relatives were made aware of the severity of his condition.

Coming up in the New York City comedy scene in the 1980s, Hiram became a much-loved and friendly face across a variety of clubs including the Comedy Cellar, where he would have people in hysterics through his routines.

His passion for comedy saw him broaden his scope to other places and venues. His aspirations even led him out of the field and into a career on TV in addition, with parts on shows like 7th Heaven (various), Sabrina The Teenage Witch (Dr. Schwartz), Everybody Loves Raymond (Ted), and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (vet).

On the other hand, he became best remembered as an actor for a brief recurring role on the iconic sitcom Seinfeld, playing the role of one of Elaine’s co-workers beginning in 1993.

In the 2010s he and his wife, Diana Kastenbaum, relocated to the city of Batavia, which is where he passed. He is survived by her and their daughter, Millicent Jade Kastenbaum.

Hiram Kasten’s obituary honors ‘a truly charming guy’

Shared on Facebook, Hiram’s obituary is an incredibly thoughtful and poignant one.

“From the very beginning he was predestined to be a performer, an entertainer, an actor, and a comedian,” it includes.

Praising his stand-up ability, it continued: “To Hiram, it was all about the performance and the desire to entertain. He channeled the greats in his demeanor onstage, always dressing for the occasion… His comedy and demeanor were not some contrived gimmick to ‘put on’ a character. He was the real deal. He belonged to a different time, a different generation…”

Sadly, they noted, “his health had taken a downturn,” putting his career on hold.

Those reacting to the post have cherished their memories with him. “I loved hanging out with Hiram,” one wrote. “He was a man who loved his wife, daughter, baseball, and comedy. He was generous to his friends and always a delight. I’m sad I will never see him again in this life.”

“Multi-talented,” another regarded him as. “Act, sing, dance, direct, write,” he could do it all. “A heart as large as his talent. Mentor to many.” May he forever be remembered with the same fondness.
