The 69-year-old Hollywood actor and filmmaker has starred in such classics as The Bodyguard, JFK, The Untouchables, and Field Of Dreams. More recently he’s been most closely associated with the popular TV series Yellowstone, but his return to the big screen comes courtesy of the ambitious Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, in theaters on Friday, June 28th 2024. Kevin Costner shared unexpected and ‘sweet’ meeting with Prince William
In conversation with People magazine, Kevin recently revealed that he once met with William, Prince of Wales. The 41-year-old member of the British Royal family is the son of Princess Diana, who sadly passed away in 1997.
“I’ve never talked about this but now I can because of how I very much respect him,” he spilled.
“I happened to be in England, and I got this message that the prince would love to talk, and I said, ‘What?'” in disbelief. Ultimately, he agreed to meet with the prince—as you would.
“We met in this room… and it was just us. He walked up, and we shook hands… The first line out of his mouth was, ‘You know, my mom kind of fancied you.'” He didn’t attempt to hide his surprise recalling that.
“We talked [for] about a half hour,” he continued. “I’ll never say what we talked about, but it was a very sweet thing. And we chatted and we just broke away and we never became pen pals or anything like that, but I’ve had such fond memories of who he was, how I was approached, and what we talked about.”

Prefiguring the reveal on his secret meeting with Prince William, Kevin began discussing the fact he was thinking about making a sequel to one of his most beloved movies, 1992’s The Bodyguard.
“I was gonna make a second one of Bodyguard,” he admitted. “There was a moment that that was really flying down the tracks…” Back in the ’90s.
As it turns out, William’s comment about his mother may have meant much more to Kevin than he anticipated, because the pair had actually been in talks to collaborate on The Bodyguard follow-up with her in a starring role.
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, had introduced the pair to one another and discussions about a potential sequel began to take shape.
“It was so sweet,” he explained. “Sarah was the one that set this up… Diana and I began to talk.” As you’ll likely know already, the sequel was ultimately never made and remains a fascinating ‘What if?’ for fans to ponder. Kevin explained that the encounter with William happened around 15 years later.
Just when you think the man couldn’t have any more stories to tell, he comes out with another. The same could be said about his filmography, as fans are hoping for a triumphant return in Yellowstone’s absence when Horizon soars into theaters.
