Report: 'Impressive' £12m David Moyes signing likely to leave West Ham with PL club leading the race

A Premier League club are leading the race to sign an ‘impressive’ £12m David Moyes signing from West Ham United, according to a recent report.

The Hammers are undergoing major surgery this summer transfer window under the stewardship of new manager Julen Lopetegui.

Luis Guilherme has already been signed and a number of players have been mooted with a departure from the London Stadium.

A fresh rumour has just emerged, linking another star away.

Southampton leading race to sign Flynn Downes

According to GiveMeSport, Southampton are in pole position to sign West Ham United midfielder Flynn Downes this summer.

The ‘impressive’ £12m David Moyes signing spent last season on loan at the South Coast club and played a starring role in their promotion.

Russell Martin is eager to wrap up the deal before his squad returns for pre-season at Staplewood and it seems The Hammers are on board with that timeline.

Lopetegui hasn’t put a block in place on the move, at this stage, so if Saints stump up the cash, it could be completed in the coming week.

The report further claims that Downes could return to Southampton on a permanent basis for less than £15m.

Though, it’s also worth noting that West Ham hold the cards, as they have him tied down to a deal until 2027, so they could push for a higher fee.

That said, it’s in the interest of West Ham to finalise a deal imminently, that way, sporting director Tim Steidten can allocate the funds to facilitate a move for a striker.
