'Such an interesting player': Frank Lampard fascinated by Arsenal star who was in Euro 2024 action yesterday

Arsenal have 11 players on their books who are currently at Euro 2024 and hoping to secure glory for their respective nations.

The Gunners have gone from strength to strength over the past few years and have challenged for the Premier League title two seasons in a row.

When a football club thrives and challenges for major honours, it increases the odds of their players being called up for major tournaments.

And for the first time, Arsenal are in double figures when it comes to players selected for the Euros.

One of those is Kai Havertz, whose brilliant return to form at N5 meant he made the cut for the Germany squad’s home tournament.

The 25-year-old has made the starting XI for both of his country’s games at the competition, and has two goal contributions to his name.

England legend Frank Lampard, who was on punditry duties for Germany’s game with Hungary on BBC One, spoke highly of Havertz at half-time.

Frank Lampard hails ‘very important’ Arsenal star Kai Havertz

Lampard said: “He is such an interesting player Kai. He was searching for his best role all that point and growing into the nine, false nine.

“But he has this ability, he has fluid movement Kai, he likes to stretch the game. He is so important as he’s prepared to make that run.

“Some of that is selfless, sometimes you won’t see him get it but he consistently makes that run. Technically he’s very good.”

Gary Lineker then asked Lampard: “Is he turning from a false nine to a nine?”

Lampard replied: “I think so.

“And I think in the teams he is playing with – even with Arsenal who also like to have players arriving in spaces in between – you really have to pick your moments when you can drop in and then others run in behind.

“But you must be the man that is consistently looking to push defenders back.”

Kai Havertz back to his best at Arsenal

Havertz needed some time to find his feet after his difficult Chelsea move, but things eventually clicked as he returned to his very best at Arsenal.

As a result, he has retained his starting role for Germany, who will be eager to win their first trophy in 10 years, and on home soil too.

Although Havertz didn’t have many chances against Hungary, he really stretched the opposition and was always willing to run in behind.

His efforts have helped Germany reach the knockout stages, and up next for Julian Nagelsmann’s side is their Group A fixture against Switzerland on Sunday.
