'He strikes me': Pundit explains how Danny Rohl's punditry work can actually help Sheffield Wednesday

Danny Rohl ended the season on a high as he confirmed Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship status for next season.

The Owls head coach followed up their success with a new contract, before it was confirmed that he would be jetting home to Germany to work at the Euro 2024 tournament.

Rohl linked up with ITV this week as he made his debut ahead of the Belgium v Slovakia clash in Frankfurt.

Having covered Croatia v Albania two days later, the German received high praise for his punditry work on social media, with many Sheffield Wednesday fans delighted when their club even got a mention live on air.

The Owls will be eager to keep his name quiet though, with the potential problem of other clubs taking an interest in his in-depth tactical knowledge of the game.

Danny Rohl’s punditry work ‘can’t hurt’ Sheffield Wednesday

However, David Prutton has now claimed that the Championship club could actually benefit from his presence at the tournament.

Speaking to The Star, the former midfielder said: “It can’t hurt.

“Management and scouting structures these days are so vast and are spread across the world, but I don’t think it hurts being in those circles. For a manager to see players with their own eyes is a good thing, but the other thing is that meeting a manager, for a player, it can make deals work. He strikes me as a figure that is personable and will stop to have a chat, he seems to be as someone who can build a rapport with somebody.

“There will be an element of Wednesday fans thinking he should be spending his time doing something better, but what’s he meant to do? Spend all his time locked in his office planning every single training session between now and the end of next season? He’ll do that anyway. This isn’t a guy who writes his formations on the back of a fag packet, he’s clearly a deep thinker about the game.”

His three-year contract means he isn’t going anywhere this summer

Sheffield Wednesday fans would be fair in their concern if Rohl hadn’t already signed a new contract, but it seems like his place on ITV this summer is purely because of his love of football and his ability to talk in such depth about it.

The 35-year-old has really impressed this week, but rather than hinder the Owls, he is surely looking at these matches with one eye on possible transfers.

Rohl is clearly a very approachable and likeable man, so it would come as no surprise if he is able to host some discussions with various players and agents before returning to Sheffield.

The club are clearly handling transfer business well without him in the city, so it really feels like nothing to worry about for supporters.
