Report: Arsenal considering move for £63m Brazilian who Pep Guardiola is a big fan of

Arsenal are now said to be monitoring a Brazilian forward who Mikel Arteta was interested in signing almost two years ago.

Whilst it all seems pretty quiet at Arsenal during Euro 2024, Edu and his team will no doubt be working diligently behind the scenes.

If reports are to be believed, Mikel Arteta has made it clear that he desires the arrival of a striker, a central midfielder and a left-back this summer.

Whether all three of those signings will be delivered remains to be seen, especially after Arsenal missed out on Benjamin Sesko – a market opportunity deemed too good not to explore.

In terms of a midfielder, it’s perhaps a little surprising that Arsenal aren’t intervening with Juventus’ move to sign Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, a player who is admired by Arteta and his staff.

But it seems Arsenal have moved on, and have several new targets in mind.

And according to CaughtOffside, Arsenal have Wolverhampton Wanderers’ striker Matheus Cunha firmly on their radar.

Both Arsenal and Man United may be put off by Matheus Cunha’s asking price

Along with Manchester United, Arsenal are considering a move for Cunha this summer, who enjoyed a strong season under Gary O’Neil.

Either side of a significant injury, Cunha scored 12 Premier League goals last campaign, a huge improvement on the two strikes he managed in 2022/23.

Interestingly, Cunha isn’t a typical number nine so to speak, he’s often found in wide areas or dropping slightly deeper to link play, in a similar fashion to compatriot Gabriel Jesus.

But on last season’s evidence, he’s a better finisher than Jesus, an upgrade Arteta may desire.

Arteta was interested in signing Cunha towards the end of 2022, before he eventually joined Wolves.

And if Arteta’s opinion alone isn’t enough, Pep Guardiola has also complemented Cunha whilst playing the Premier League, saying he had ‘a lot of quality’.

Given how he started in England, it never seemed likely that Cunha would rise to this level of interest once again, a player who once had extremely high expectations at Atletico Madrid.

But the 25-year-old has thrived since settling at Wolves, and respectfully does seem ready to perform on a bigger stage.

Although, with a reported asking price of £63m this summer, Arsenal could well be put off pursuing their interest.
