Why Man Utd could actually now step up their interest in £50k-a-week Wolves player - journalist

Manchester United are being tipped to make a play for one of Wolves most key players.

The transfer window is officially open now and speculation is rife about many players, with a number of Wanderers stars being linked with exits.

Wolves have been productive on the incoming front, signing Tommy Doyle, Rodrigo Gomes and Pedro Lima.

But so far, no one has left Molineux. But there is a feeling that will change soon.

Max Kilman is a player who has been in the gossip columns for the past few days, with the captain wanted by West Ham United, who are expected to soon make a formal approach.

He’s also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, and previously Manchester United.

Today, journalist Dean Jones has specifically provided an update on United’s interest in the player.

Last season, Kilman was the most-used Wolves player for Gary O’Neil.

The manager played him every single minute of the club’s 2023/24 Premier League campaign, and also used him in all the cup matches barring the defeat to Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup.

Kilman had a decent season, showing his best level when Craig Dawson was playing alongside him.

He also arguably looked better when O’Neil changed the system to a back three against Manchester City.

Manchester United like Kilman, having first been linked with him earlier this year.

Today, journalist Dean Jones has suggested that United could actually now make Kilman more of a priority target, because they’ve had issues with other targets.

He wrote on X: “Man Utd might join the conversation more seriously for Max Kilman if their main defensive targets are unfeasible, which is becoming the narrative.”

A good situation for Wolves

The Kilman situation is getting more interesting as the summer goes on.

The narrative is that Wolves don’t particularly want to sell. He is the captain, and he signed a new contract last year and is clearly rated highly by O’Neil.

But while £50,000-a-weekhttps://www.capology.com/club/wolverhampton/salaries/ ace Kilman is a capable Premier League centre-back, some do feel as though he should not be considered unsellable.

Wolves have reportedly set a £45 million price tag on the 27-year-old which is pretty high. But there is actually a decent chance of that being met, with United, Spurs and West Ham all now said to be keen.

A bidding war would be ideal for Wolves, because it would ensure that if Kilman is going to go, then it will be for big money.
