'In contention': Leeds are still trying to sign attacker from Championship rivals on a free - journalist

Leeds United are reportedly on the trail of a number of free agents this summer and transfer insider Graeme Bailey says they are still ‘very much in contention’ for one of them.

As is always the case in the Championship due to the financial restrictions, Leeds will have to be clever when it comes to their movement in the window over the next two months.

Though Paraag Marathe has confirmed funds will be available to spend once some sales have been made, the free agent market has some real quality available right now.

Leeds are said to be in the race to sign Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare once his contract expires, while there have also been links to Fulham’s Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

West Ham’s Ben Johnson is also someone Leeds have been looking at since January, though the latest reports have suggested he will commit his future to the Hammers.

Transfer insider shares update on Leeds’ pursuit of Daniel Jebbison

LeedsUnited.News have spoken exclusively to transfer expert Bailey this week regarding the state of play at Elland Road a week into the window.

He revealed that it very much remains a possibility one or both of Max Wober and Rasmus Kristensen could return, while also claiming Leeds will be ‘at the table’ for Oliver Skipp if he becomes available.

Earlier this month, Bailey reported news of Leeds’ interest in Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison, with technical director Gretar Steinsson a big fan.

Jebbison is another soon-to-be free agent seemingly on the radar at Leeds, with it looking more and more unlikely he will be penning an extension at the Blades.

In a new update on the 20-year-old’s future, Bailey says Leeds remain ‘very much in contention’ to win the race with talks still ongoing.

He said: “That one is ongoing. We know it is someone who Steinsson likes a lot so we will see where we go with that one, but Leeds are still very much in contention.”

Leeds also keen on RB Salzburg striker Petar Ratkov

Based on the links so far, it would appear Leeds are in the market for a new young striker this summer, amid interest in both Jebbison and RB Salzburg’s Petar Ratkov.

Like Jebbison, Ratkov is still only 20 and is thought to have huge potential, with some even labelling him as the ‘next Erling Haaland‘.

This is certainly an interesting strategy for Leeds to take given they have another promising young number nine on their books in Mateo Joseph.

Joseph did not get enough of a chance last season and his development should be the priority ahead of bringing in another of his mould.
