Report: Lazio could actually offer Manchester United £15.2m player along with cash for Mason Greenwood

Lazio are among the main contenders to sign Mason Greenwood this summer, but the details of their offer leave much to be desired.

Manchester United’s transfer window has gotten off to a slow start with sales required in order to fund arrivals as is the effect of a limited budget.

One potential sale which could be huge in funding the transfer window Ineos want to have is Mason Greenwood with the forward being hunted by several clubs.

Juventus, Lazio, Valencia and more have all shown interest or already made a bid to sign the in-demand forward who impressed for Getafe on loan last season, who have also yet to give up on keeping Greenwood.

But now the details of Lazio’s reported bid for Greenwood have been revealed and it’s far from favourable and could potentially include a player.

Lazio to offer United Christos Mandas in Greenwood deal

Lazio are one of the leading suitors to sign Mason Greenwood permanently this summer with United demanding €40 million or £33.8m to part with him, according to reports.

According to a report from Tutto Mercato, Lazio has already had an offer refused which was €18m or £15.2m up front and then a guaranteed 50 per cent sell-on clause.

This quite obviously was refused by United, however, the report has also claimed that United could now be offered a player in exchange instead with Greek goalkeeper Christos Mandas being considered by Napoli, as they value him at €18m or £15.2m.

This would bring the combined package to over £30m, however, it is mentioned that United at the moment only wants cash in the Greenwood deal which should make this a non-starter.

Who is Christos Mandas?

Mandas is Lazio’s 22-year-old Greek goalkeeper who has been linked with Manchester City in recent months, which is always a good sign for a goalkeeper.

Still very young for a goalkeeper, Mandas made nine Serie A appearances last season, in which he conceded just six goals while keeping five clean sheets.

Mandas is first and foremost an excellent shot stopper, saving 79.3 per cent of the shots he’s faced in the past year which is higher than Andre Onana, Allison and Ederson, as per FBRef.

Already capped for Greece, he’s an exciting goalkeeper, and he’d likely be someone United would like to sign considering links already to a new young goalkeeper such as Zion Suzuki.

That being said, accepting an offer of just £15.2m in cash for Greenwood is unlikely considering his sale is being relied on to fund overhauls.
