The one giant negative about losing Michael Olise that Crystal Palace fans may not have thought about yet - Opinion

Crystal Palace are now set to lose Michael Olise as he agrees to make the switch to Bayern Munich, but there’s one big negative.

The transfer saga surrounding Michael Olise’s departure from Selhurst Park has been short-lived as he’s now expected to join Bayern Munich.

Crystal Palace will receive £55 million for Olise after Bayern triggered his release clause, with the Frenchman set to earn £220,000 per week in Germany.

After some twists and turns in the race to sign Olise, including rumours of a potential new contract offer from Palace as Chelsea looked like favourites.

But now Olise has snubbed the chance to join Chelsea for the second consecutive summer, with his demands playing a part. But there is one negative in selling Olise now which might not have been considered by many Palace fans.

The big negative in selling Michael Olise right now

In some ways, selling Olise early is perfect as it gives Oliver Glasner plenty of time to replace and plan for life without the 22-year-old.

With the news now widely known that he’s heading to Bayern and this will see Palace get a cash influx, finding a replacement for Olise has just got a whole lot more expensive.

Any club that Palace approaches to sign a right-winger from will know that there is £55m just sitting there from the Olise sale.

This would quite obviously leave Palace in a poor negotiating position from the get-go as the Eagles will likely be quoted more than it would’ve been before Olise’s sale was agreed.

But with Palace likely to be quoted high fees for even average players, it’d make sense for the club to instead go for the cream of the crop and try to sign the higher-level talents who’ve been linked with the club such as Matias Soule.

This is the one reason a move to Chelsea might’ve suited Palace more

While we’re glad that we won’t have to face Olise next season as he’ll be in the Bundesliga, selling to Chelsea could’ve had one benefit over this move.

This being that the Blues were reportedly going to offer players in the offer with one name mentioned being Noni Madueke who’d have been the perfect replacement for Olise.

Getting Madueke in a deal for Olise plus some cash would’ve immediately replaced the Frenchman therefore avoiding the problem of signing an overpriced replacement.

Going in for Madueke now would likely cost Palace an arm and a leg, with Chelsea not wanting to sell anyway, and therefore this excellent option is likely completely off the table, at least for now.
