Sheffield Wednesday 'interested' in La Liga striker as possible Ike Ugbo alternative - journalist

Sheffield Wednesday are interested in a La Liga forward, with competition from other Championship clubs.

Sheffield Wednesday pulled off a great escape in the Championship last season, and are now looking to build on this newfound optimism.

Danny Rohl has pressed on with his transfer dealings early on in the summer window, with three signings already confirmed at S6.

Ben Hamer, Max Lowe and Yan Valery have all come through the doors at Hillsborough, with the latter providing much excitement to Wednesdayites after his successful 2023/24 season with Angers in France.

Familiar faces have been kept on in north Sheffield as well, with fan favourites Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer notably committing their futures to Wednesday for next season.

Rohl has now set his sights on attacking firepower, with him looking abroad to find a new striker.

Who is Sheffield Wednesday target Sory Kaba

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly interested in Las Palmas striker Sory Kaba, per Darren Witcoop.

The Guinean international striker has been identified as an alternative to former loanee Ike Ugbo after they were reportedly priced out of a deal for the Troyes attacker.

Kaba found himself getting regular appearances in the opening stages of the 2023/24 La Liga season, however he struggled to cement his place ahead of former Everton striker Sandro Ramirez.

The 28-year-old striker has experience of the Championship with Cardiff City in the second half of the 2022/23 season, where he bagged an impressive eight goals in 17 appearances.

Is Sory Kaba the right striker signing for Sheffield Wednesday

Kaba lack of gametime last season in La Liga suggests that the level may have been a step too far for the Guinean, who struggled to hit a run of form for the Spanish outfit.

However, his spell at Cardiff City in the second half of the 2022/23 season is one to be admired, with a notable run of seven goals in nine games throughout April that year.

His short yet electric spell in south Wales earned himself fan favourite status as he kept Cardiff City up from relegation.

Standing at 6ft 3ins, Kaba could be a real threat from Bannan’s set pieces, as well as having the ability of holding up the ball, something that could bring out the best in wide men Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba next season.

His style of play and consistent form when fashioning his trade in England is one that should bring excitement to Wednesdayites, if he can hit the ground running then he could be crucial in Wednesday building on last season’s successes under Rohl.
