Report: Two clubs actually made interesting late bids for Michael Olise before Bayern Munich won race

Michael Olise will be heading to Germany this summer after all, but a late swoop from Manchester United may have prevented it.

Didier Deschamps will be kicking himself for not naming Michael Olise in the France squad for the Euros this summer as his France side hasn’t scored in either game played, with an own goal winning them the game vs Austria.

But Olise will end up in Germany this summer anyway as he’s agreed to join Bayern Munich with the Bavarian giants winning a hotly contested race for his signature.

It’ll see Crystal Palace pocket £55 million from the move as Olise will more than double his wage with a 120% rise to £220,000-per-week. The sale will do wonders for Palace’s budget this summer, and we expect an exciting replacement to be signed.

Now, it’s been reported that two clubs arrived late on for Olise and actually offered an interesting deal to Crystal Palace.

What Manchester United and Manchester City offered for Olise

Friday night brought the news that Olise had accepted a move to Bayern Munich and now it’s been reported two other clubs made late approaches for the 22-year-old.

According to The Mirror, both Manchester United and Manchester City actually made last-minute bids for Olise before he agreed to move to Bayern.

It explains that both Manchester clubs were beaten to Olise by Bayern after they made interesting late offers for the £55m winger.

What makes these bids interesting is they’re reported to have been with a view to being completed in 12 months with neither wanting to spend the money this summer.

United and City both explored deals which would’ve allowed Oliver Glasner to keep Olise at Selhurst Park for one more season before moving in 2025. This is due to both having PSR concerns and Olise being too expensive, with United only having a budget of £50m.

This would’ve been terrible for Crystal Palace

If Palace and Olise had agreed to this prospective delayed transfer, we imagine there’d be some stipulations which could be catastrophic for Palace.

Both clubs likely would’ve demanded a fixed fee which couldn’t rise. Something which depending on the season Olise may have in 2024/25, could be painful to see as if he stayed another year and signed the reported new contract, Palace could get double.

There’s also a chance that the two heavyweights would have wanted some opt-out agreement, amid concerns over Olise’s injury struggles, which might’ve left Palace stuck if they withdrew in 12 months.

Selling to Bayern Munich is the best option for all, and best of all for Palace, the club and Tyrick Mitchell won’t have to fear his return to Selhurst Park with a league rival.
