Unai Emery told how ‘monster’ £50m Aston Villa target just ‘excelled’ alongside Youri Tielemans

One Aston Villa transfer target impressed at Euro 2024 in a partnership with Unai Emery favourite Youri Tielemans.

Unai Emery and Monchi have got to work fast in the summer transfer window with much of the activity due to PSR concerns.

Aston Villa have a task to ensure their finances are within the Premier League boundaries by June 30th, with numerous deals set to happen.

Once the financial situation has been made clearer, Emery will be eager to replenish his side with star talent and may now be even more convinced to chase one target.

Aston Villa transfer target Amadou Onana starred alongside Youri Tielemans for Belgium

It was a historic night for Belgium at Euro 2024 on Saturday as Youri Tielemans netted the country’s fastest ever goal at a major tournament.

The midfielder’s opener after 73 seconds wasn’t the only encouraging part of the fixture from Emery’s point of view, as one reported target shone alongside the Villa man.

Last week, The Times reported that Villa were one of the clubs eyeing Everton star Amadou Onana, who is claimed to be valued at £50m by the Toffees.

After seeing how the midfielder performed alongside Tielemans for Belgium on Saturday evening, Emery and Monchi may be even more alerted to the transfer.

Belgian media outlet 7sur7 highlighted the performance of the Everton sensation, claiming that he ‘excelled’ next to the Villa man.

‘His complementarity with Tielemans is much more obvious than with Mangala. His role in recovery was well defined this time and the Everton player excelled in the duel.’

Emery could rebuild his midfield with Onana capture

After seeing how well the duo worked together at international level during Belgium’s 2-0 win over Romania, Emery should be inspired by how he could evolve his squad at Villa Park.

With Douglas Luiz’s exit to Juventus all but confirmed, the Spaniard will have a challenge on his hands to fill the void left by the midfielder, something that Tielemans could solve.

If Villa were to capture Onana, Emery could utilise Tielemans’ technical brilliance in a way similar to how Luiz rose to prominence in the XI.

Once lauded as a ‘monster duel-winner’ by Raj Chohan, Onana’s combative side was complemented well by Tielemans’ progressive nature, something that worked for Belgium and could work for Villa.

The duo flexed their partnership at the Euros on Saturday night, hinting at what the Villa boss could unearth next season if Monchi is to strike a deal for the 22-year-old.
