Report: 'Remarkable' striker's asking price is actually £15m higher than what Tottenham want to pay for him

One Premier League player’s £60 million asking price is said to be £15 million higher than what Tottenham Hotspur want to pay for him in the summer transfer window.

Spurs certainly look likely to be one team to watch this summer, with Ange Postecoglou’s side proving to be one of the only sides who did anything of note in January; with both Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin signing.

A promising first season under Postecoglou also highlighted a number of issues Tottenham need to address, with the lack of a replacement for Harry Kane an obvious example.

Richarlison had a much better second season, but there do still seem to be some doubts concerning whether the Brazilian is the number nine Spurs need to close the gap to those at the summit of the Premier League.

Tottenham want to pay £45 million for Ivan Toney

Interestingly, it was reported earlier this week that Tottenham have agreed personal terms with Ivan Toney, with Spurs seeing a £40 million bid rejected by Brentford.

Give Me Sport is now reporting that Brentford want £60 million for the England international, but it is claimed that Spurs are looking to pay around £45 million. So clearly, Daniel Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy are going to need all of their skills to reach a compromise.

A potential gamble which could prove to be inspired

It is an interesting time to go after the ‘remarkable‘ 28-year-old, as he has definitely shown some amazing form in the Premier League, scoring 32 goals across his first two years at the highest level with the Bees.

But obviously, he missed the first-half of last season due to a ban, and he only showed some glimpses of being the same player upon his return, scoring just four times in 17 games.

So you could understand why Tottenham may have reservations about a deal for the striker, but they clearly feel that he is worth paying around £45 million for. And thus, they obviously believe that he has plenty to offer.

Much may come down to what sort of budget Tottenham are working with over the rest of the summer, and what other striker targets they have in mind, but Toney definitely has the potential to make a fee look like a bargain if everything clicks for him in North London.
