Report: Newcastle confident deal to sign 'fantastic' £60m international player will be done this week

Newcastle United are looking to get some business done early in the transfer window and are hopeful of making a big signing this week.

The Magpies are among a cluster of Premier League clubs who are getting busy ahead of the end of June as concerns over PSR continue to drive decisions.

This week has seen a host of deals get done as the likes of Everton, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Chelsea all look to avoid PSR issues.

Of course, Newcastle are among the clubs looking to spend before the end of June and according to reports, they feel a deal to bring in an international striker is now close.

Newcastle confident of signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin this week

According to a report from the Northern Echo, Newcastle are looking to push on with a deal to sign the Everton striker and feel they can get the deal done this week.

Calvert-Lewin is open to moving to the Northeast and apparently has concerns over the future of Everton and their direction.

Newcastle, then, feel they can get a deal done at what would be a price much less than the £60m Calvert-Lewin was previously touted at.

The England striker has had a nightmare few seasons with injuries but bounced back last season to help Everton avoid the drop.

Newcastle, meanwhile, could allow Callum Wilson to depart if they get the deal for Calvert-Lewin done.

Calvert-Lewin a new option for Newcastle

The Mags have had big success in signing Alexander Isak and they’ll now be hoping the idea of pairing him with Calvert-Lewin and Anthony Gordon works wonders.

Of course, we know Calvert-Lewin is a proven Premier League striker who has simply seen injuries rob him of ever pushing on.

With the Toffees needing to bring some money in and the ‘fantastic‘ Calvert-Lewin needing a change of scenery, this deal could work out well for everyone.
