Report: When insiders now believe Dan Ashworth could actually join Manchester United from Newcastle

Newcastle United remain at loggerheads with Manchester United over Dan Ashworth.

Indeed, the former Newcastle sporting director is still technically under contract with the club but has been placed on gardening leave.

So far, the Old Trafford giants have not been able to put together a deal compelling enough to get PIF to release Ashworth.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is now in charge of footballing operations in Manchester, has frequently been dismissive of Newcastle’s position too.

Earlier this week, he labelled the club’s conduct as “very difficult” and “very awkward” for refusing to budge, having rejected a £2m offer to free Ashworth from his contract.

Newcastle are reportedly looking for around £20m if they are to do that. For their part, they are said to have been unfazed by Ratcliffe’s latest outburst.

Still, The Sun have shared the latest news in regards to the Ashworth saga.

When insiders actually believe Dan Ashworth could join Manchester United from Newcastle

They claim that Man United are prepared to wait nine months to land Ashworth.

It is thought that they are ready to hold their position and not bow to Newcastle’s demands, meaning the former Brighton guru is set for an extended period on leave.

In fact, the report suggests insiders believe Ashworth might not officially get going in Manchester until March, meaning he will miss their next two transfer windows.

What Newcastle were disappointed about during Dan Ashworth’s time at the club

Though losing a sporting director they paid to bring in from Brighton would hardly have been in Newcastle’s grand plan, it’s not as if it was all was going swimmingly well.

In fact, The Athletic revealed back in March that decision-makers at St James’ Park were disappointed that the club were not able to raise more money through player sales during Ashworth’s brief tenure.

Clearly, that is not an easy thing to do when buyers aren’t at the ready with suitable offers but it’s certainly worth remembering.
