'Up to the player': £65m man needs to push for Chelsea move to happen - journalist

Chelsea are going to need one player to force a move if they want to sign him this transfer window.

The Blues have already strengthened their defence with the addition of Tosin Adarabioyo, while Estevao Willian will bolster them out wide when he eventually joins the club.

However, Chelsea still need to bring in a new striker.

They finished last season with Nicolas Jackson as the only recognised centre-forward in their squad.

One man who looks unlikely to move to Stamford Bridge this summer, though, is Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion. It has been claimed that Chelsea have now cooled their interest in him.

Chelsea need help from target

With Omorodion now seemingly out of the picture, Chelsea are going to have to turn elsewhere.

One alternative is Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, the Blues are interested in their former player but will need him to push for a move if a deal is to happen.

Speaking about Solanke and his release clause on Substack, Phillips said: “Bournemouth initially said no to any structuring of the release clause, but their stance has softened slightly in recent days.

“This one really does have some legs and could certainly develop, but it will be fully up to the player and if he pushes.”

As per The Athletic, Solanke’s release clause currently stands at £65m but can only be activated by certain clubs.

Will Dominic Solanke push for a move this summer?

Solanke really impressed during the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

In total, the 26-year-old scored 19 goals in 38 appearances. With that in mind, it is not a surprise that Chelsea are considering him.

If his former side register a serious interest in signing him this summer, you can easily see Solanke trying to force a move.

Chelsea are his boyhood club and are one of the top teams in England. A return there should appeal to the centre-forward.
