Unai Emery’s ‘star in the making’ now closing in on Aston Villa exit as medical scheduled

Aston Villa are preparing to part ways with several players in the coming days, with one star’s future close to being confirmed.

Many Premier League clubs are scrambling to offload players to generate profit ahead of June 30th, with Aston Villa being one.

Monchi and Unai Emery have already parted ways with Tim Iroegbunam who signed for Everton, with further deals poised to be completed to aid Villa’s PSR concerns.

Douglas Luiz’s pending exit has been the main talking point however, another shock departure has now captured attention.

Omari Kellyman set to undergo a medical at Chelsea as Aston Villa exit nears

As Villa prepare to sign Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, the Blues are working with the Villans in a separate deal to acquire starlet Omari Kellyman.

Signed by Villa from Derby County for just £600,000 in 2022, Chelsea are set to sign the 18-year-old for £19m, as Fabrizio Romano detailed the progress of the transfer.

The renowned journalist shared on Monday morning that the Villa starlet is ‘on his way’ to a medical at Chelsea, with a six-year contract on the table with the option of a further year.

While the Englishman has shown his potential at youth level, he has only secured six senior appearances in his career, seeing the £19m capture perceived as a shock to many.

Kellyman sale is bittersweet for Villa

As a result of PSR concerns, acquiring a profit on a player who is far from being in Emery’s immediate plans is impressive although, his exit will be a loss to Villa’s academy.

Once described as a ‘star in the making’ for the Villans by journalist Ashley Preece, Kellyman showed glimpses of his potential over the 2023/24 campaign, with his time at Villa now set to end prematurely.

Losing an upcoming talent to a fellow Premier League side is disappointing, however, generating significant profit allows Villa to take a considerable step forward in their bid to ease their PSR woes.

There will be hope that Kellyman can continue his quest to senior football in the top flight at Chelsea, who are a squad in transition after a hectic few years in the transfer window.

Had it not been for PSR, it would be unlikely that Villa would have parted ways with Kellyman so soon, and many others who are rumoured to depart.
