£20m Newcastle United player could now be reunited with Allan Saint-Maximin - journalist

There could potentially be a Newcastle United reunion in Saudi Arabia this summer.

The Magpies sold Allan Saint-Maximin to a club in Saudi Arabia last year, with the Frenchman joining Al-Ahli for £23million.

That deal opened the door for Newcastle United to sign Tino Livramento and Harvey Barnes. It was a case of the Magpies cashing in on a saleable asset, despite Eddie Howe admitting multiple times that he did not actually want to sell Saint-Maximin.

But it was vital at the time that Toon officials moved someone on, and waving goodbye to Saint-Maximin has proven to be the correct decision one year later.

Newcastle United need to sell

Now Newcastle are in a similar situation, as they aim to move players on and refresh their squad. There is the added pain of PSR, with Newcastle under pressure to sell before June 30th.

It looks like Yankuba Minteh will be the player that goes, with the 19-year-old now informing the club that he would like to sign for Everton.

His departure will solve Newcastle’s PSR problem, but there are other players who the Magpies could also sell this summer.

One of those is Callum Wilson, with the 32-year-old entering the final year of his contract. It has been reported that he is likely to leave, with West Ham United showing an interest in the striker in recent days.

Saudi interest in Callum Wilson

However, they are not the only club that is keeping an eye on the £20million forward.

That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who has taken to X to provide an update on Callum Wilson’s Newcastle United future.

He wrote: “Callum Wilson drawing interest from West Ham as well as Saudi. Al-Fateh and Al-Ahli have both discussed Wilson, but no offer yet. Newcastle open to a sale.”

Lots of exciting talent for Wilson to link up with at Al-Ahli

Jacobs believes that Al-Ahli are discussing a move for Wilson, and a transfer there would result in him playing alongside Allan Saint-Maximin again. It would also see him link up with stars such as Roberto Firmino and Riyad Mahrez, who also left the Premier League last summer.

Playing alongside talent like that could be appealing to Wilson, who is reportedly interested in a fresh challenge away from Tyneside.

Whether or not a move to Saudi Arabia is appealing remains to be seen, but you have to imagine he would rather sign for Al-Ahli than Al-Fateh if he had the choice.

While the former has some top players and an ex-Toon teammate, it is a different story at Al-Fateh. They are managed by Slaven Bilic, but do not have any major stars. The biggest names they have got are Jason Denayer and former Barcelona wonderkid Cristian Tello.

Out of the three clubs listed, you have to imagine that Wilson would favour a move to West Ham. He still has what it takes to excel in the Premier League, and a move there would see him link up with podcast pal Michail Antonio.

For now, it is unclear where Wilson will go, but a Toon departure is feeling more and more likely – especially with Newcastle stepping up their interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who would probably be his replacement.
