Fabrizio Romano shares transfer latest as another club tries to sign 'exceptional' Newcastle player

Newcastle United have been in the headlines over the past few days.

While much of the attention in the footballing world will no doubt be on the Euro 2024 and Copa America tournaments, Newcastle have been in the news of late.

Indeed, not only was it claimed that the club were closing in on the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton but there were reports from the Daily Telegraph suggesting a player-plus-cash offer had been made for Wolves defender Max Kilman.

The player in question potentially going the other way was said to have been Elliot Anderson, though he reportedly wants to stay at St James’ Park and is in fact hoping for a new contract.

Then there’s young forward Yankuba Minteh.

The 19-year-old was hailed as “exceptional” during his loan stint at Feyenoord last season but may end up never playing for Newcastle in any kind of capacity.

There is reportedly a reluctant acceptance behind the scenes that Minteh may need to be sold in order to balance the books on the FFP front, while the teenager himself is said to have accepted he may be leaving this summer.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has now shared the latest.

Fabrizio Romano shares Yankuba Minteh transfer latest at Newcastle

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Romano claimed that French side Lyon were the latest to join the race to sign Minteh.

It, however, is believed that Everton have held talks with Newcastle after showing “concrete” interest.

Yankuba Minteh has already agreed to leave Newcastle without playing a game

Minteh is believed to have attracted a number of inquiries from a host of clubs around Europe.

The situation is so far advanced that the player’s agent has confirmed Minteh has agreed terms with another club, though stopped short of naming exactly who they were.

Speaking to The Chronicle, Bakary Bojang said: “It is correct that Newcastle are willing to sell the player if they receive a good offer. From our side if Newcastle wants to sell and the sporting project is good we will definitely look at it. We are in communication with some clubs.

“I can’t confirm clubs who are in communication with us. We have agreed terms with one of the clubs. So now the rest is with Newcastle.”
