‘Ran the show’: National media in awe of player Chelsea sold last summer for his performance for his country

A number of former Chelsea players have had a great start to life on the international scene this summer, with both the European Championships and Copa America taking place.

Kai Havertz starred for Germany in their opening goal of the tournament, while N’golo Kante has reminded everybody just how good he is when fully fit.

As the Copa America has got going, some of the attention has turned to what some former Blues are getting up to there.

Last night saw the United States get their campaign underway, with Christian Pulisic leading them to a 2-0 win against Bolivia.

Christian Pulisic stars for USA

The winger had already enjoyed a strong domestic season off the back of his move from Chelsea to AC Milan last summer, and now seems to have taken that form to the international stage.

Pro Soccer Wire described his performance as a real positive, naming him the player who ran the show in their victory.

They said: “Pulisic wasted no time putting the USMNT into the lead, capping off an electric opening couple of minutes with a glorious strike to give them a third-minute lead.

“Pulisic later tacked on an assist of his own, dishing the ball to Balogun in the 44th minute after making a smart run inside to turn a promising move into true danger.

“Overall, Pulisic more or less ran the show, and was busy in all phases of play. The pressure on the AC Milan star is that he’s probably going to have to play like this four more times for the USMNT to go on a run to the final.”

Pulisic’s Chelsea career ruined by injury

Injuries unfortunately always played a real part in Pulisic’s ability to make an impact during his time at Stamford Bridge, and as a result was very rarely named a starter for Chelsea.

However, he alongside Ruben Loftus-Cheek look different players over in Italy, both having their best individual campaigns up to now.

Elsewhere in the Copa America, Moises Caicedo was left heartbroken after Ecuador were defeated in their first group game of the competition against Venezuela.
