Keith Downie has just shared a major update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin's move to Newcastle

Newcastle United have been pushing ahead with a deal to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton, but talks are now over.

The 27-year-old had been identified by Newcastle United to come in and be Callum Wilson’s replacement at St James’ Park, with talks advancing over the weekend.

It was reported that the Magpies were confident about reaching an agreement with Everton, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin believed to be keen on a move to the North East.

However, that move will now seemingly not be happening, much to the shock of the Toon Army.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not on his way to Newcastle United now

Newcastle United are no longer going to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton.

That has been reported by multiple outlets, with the Chronicle stating that Newcastle have pulled out of a deal to bring the striker to Tyneside.

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has claimed that to be the case too, writing on X that the the Magpies are no longer looking to agree a deal with Everton for the England international.

He wrote on X: “Newcastle are no longer pursuing their move for Dom Calvert-Lewin. They had been in talks with Everton over a £40m move for the striker, but it’s now OFF. Yankuba Minteh is also very unlikely to now move to Goodison in the opposite direction, with strong interest from French club Lyon for the winger.”

The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has also weighed in on what this means for Yankuba Minteh. He has been linked with a move to Everton, and had told Newcastle that he would like to sign for the Toffees.

But that deal is off too, with Ryder writing on X: “Yankuba Minteh talks with Everton COLLAPSE! I understand Minteh won’t be going to Everton now but could still leave Newcastle for a European side.”

Newcastle United will need to find another striker as Calvert-Lewin deal collapses

Just like that, two major transfers involving Newcastle United are no longer happening.

Starting with Calvert-Lewin, the Magpies’ decision to pull out of a deal will force them to look elsewhere for a striker, as they will need to bring someone in before they allow Callum Wilson to leave.

The 32-year-old is likely to be sold this summer, and is reportedly interested in a fresh start away from Tyneside. He could get that in Saudi Arabia, while West Ham United have also been linked.

Calvert-Lewin looked like an ideal candidate to come in and take his place in the Newcastle squad, but that is not going to happen now.

What next for Yankuba Minteh with Everton move off the table

As for Minteh, the Magpies are going to find themselves another buyer. That might not be too difficult, with the 19-year-old attracting interest from clubs across Europe. Borussia Dortmund have previously been linked, while Lyon are rumoured to be keen.

While Minteh is not going to sign for Everton, it looks like he will still be leaving. That is because of PSR, with Newcastle needing to sell.

It looked like Newcastle and Everton were going to help each other out by doing business together, but now two deals are off the table.

This final week of June was expected to be wild, and it is proving to be exactly that.
