Report: Arsenal now ready to pay £49m release-clause to sign forward who has been 'unplayable' in the Euros

Arsenal are pushing ahead with new signings and could now be ready to pay the release-clause for one of the Euros’ top players so far.

Mikel Arteta wants to add quality and depth to the squad for next season after seeing his Gunners side come up just short last year in the title race.

As with all big English clubs in the transfer window, countless names are already being mentioned when it comes to potential Arsenal signings.

With a new forward, midfielder, and defender all said to be on the agenda, it’s little wonder we’ve seen so many players get linked.

However, according to reports, it is that new forward who Arsenal could be close to getting over the line first, with the Gunners apparently ready to pay a hefty release-clause for a top target.

Arsenal ready to pay £49m to sign Nico Williams

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal are now ready to pay the near £50m to sign Williams after seeing him star in the Euros for Spain.

Previously, it had been suggested that Williams’ wage demands had put Arsenal off.

And with Chelsea also in the mix, it looked like the Gunners were going to miss out.

However, CaughtOffside suggests that Arsenal are now ready to pay his release-clause and while there is interest from a host of other clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea are moving forward with theirs.

Williams has had a hugely impressive start to the Euros with Spain and has been key behind them winning both games so far.

Lauded for those performances as being ‘unplayable‘ so far in Germany, Williams would fit the bill for the Gunners in terms of being able to play either side on the forward line.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are also thought to be looking to sign another Spaniard, Mikel Merino.

Mikel Arteta is thought to have personally called Merino about moving to The Emirates.
