Wolves join the race to sign Fenerbahce winger Bright Osayi-Samuel

With an attacker, a midfielder and a defender secured in Doyle, Gomes and Lima, it now looks as though O’Neil wants to bolster his front line even further.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Wolves have Fenerbahce winger Bright Osayi-Samuel on their ‘agenda’.

The report claims that there are ‘three’ English ‘suitors’ for the Nigerian, with Wolves, Crystal Palace and Leeds United named as those eyeing the 26-year-old from the Super Lig.

It’s added that if a ‘satisfactory offer’ was made, Fenerbahce ‘could sell’ the versatile wide player however, contract extensions are said to be underway in a bid to keep the star in Istanbul.

A separate report from Fanatik states that Jose Mourinho is eager to keep Osayi-Samuel at the club, something that Wolves and other clubs will have to contend with.

An asking price was not mentioned in either report although, The Sun relayed Bournemouth’s interest in January 2023, quoting a price tag of £12m.

Osayi-Samuel could offer Gary O’Neil added versatility

It’s no secret that O’Neil favours those who can offer versatility to his side, seeing the likes of Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hwang Hee-chan thrive in the boss’ system last term.

The capture of Gomes reinforces such narrative, with Osayi-Samuel also presenting such values.

Having captured Fenerbahce’s eye from his time at Queens Park Rangers, the Nigeria international can play on either flank, as well as being utilised at right-back in Turkey.

During his time at QPR, former manager Mark Warburton was full of praise for the rumoured Wolves target, dubbing him ‘outstanding’ and applauding his ‘sheer pace’, via The Brent and Kilburn Times.

“He’s got that sheer pace which terrifies defenders and when he uses it wisely like he did today he looks a real handful.”

Given the emphasis on Wolves’ threat in the wide areas, Osayi-Samuel certainly fits the demographic of players that could thrive under O’Neil.

With other clubs said to be eyeing the winger, as well as his current club wanting to keep him, it will be interesting to see just how Wolves’ interest develops this summer.
