Report: PL giants will undertake one 'crucial' step before deciding to move for £50k-a-week Wolves player

Arsenal are said to be ready to take one ‘crucial’ step before deciding whether or not to make a move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto.

Neto has been the subject of speculation now for quite some time.

After shining for Wolves in 2023/24 despite some injury problems, there have been several claims that clubs are interested in him this summer.

Previously, it has been suggested that Neto himself feels as though he will be the next big sale at Molineux.

Arsenal have long been linked with the Portuguese attacker.

The Gunners are yet to make an official bid though, and a new report has today suggested they will be taking one ‘crucial’ step first.

Neto has been linked with a move to Arsenal for several years now, and there is a feeling that he perhaps might have made the move to the Emirates already if not for his bad injury record.

During his five years at Wolves, Neto has suffered a serious knee injury, ankle ligament damage and most recently a couple of serious hamstring injuries.

He has missed a lot of football and understandably, other clubs are a bit wary.

These clubs want to know that they will be getting a reliable player.

And so, Football Transfers has reported today that Arsenal are set to undertake a medical assessment of Neto, ahead of a potential swoop.

Mikel Arteta, who massively admires the winger, is said to be awaiting the latest medical reports about Neto.

Arsenal could accelerate their pursuit if the tests come back positive. If anything concerning is flagged up, the Gunners may look at alternatives.

It is unclear how Arsenal would get this data, considering £50,000-a-week ace Neto is a Wolves player.

It is stated that this date is ‘crucial’ to Arsenal’s summer transfer strategy, and that the results will significantly influence their decision on which winger to buy.

Neto injuries will cost Wolves

It is difficult to see how the injuries Neto has had over the years won’t affect Wolves as they negotiate with other clubs.

Even if Arsenal do not find anything pressing in the data for the player, the Gunners are probably not going to be offering huge money.

Neto has previously been valued at around £80 million. But that was before his two hamstring injuries this season.

Wolves probably aren’t going to get near that figure, realistically.

But we shall see how Matt Hobbs and co fare. At the end of the day, Neto is a special talent and someone the Gunners have long coveted.
