Using just one ingredient gave me a 'glass-like' glow - It's the best facial I've ever had

Forget expensive skincare treatment. I got a ‘glass-like’ glow overnight thanks to a naturopathic doctor’s advice on TikTok.

I don’t usually trust beauty hacks found on social media platforms. But a few beauty products suggested by TikTok have worked well for my colleagues. Among them are the $14 SPF moisturizer and snail slime. Yes, you read it right. But the easy overnight facial I tried requires only one natural ingredient.

I got a ‘glass-like’ glow with just one ingredient

I was on TikTok last week when I stumbled upon Dr. Janine Bowring’s video – Benefits of castor oil. Having lived in an Asian country my entire life, I am not new to castor oil. But little did I know it could make my face glow overnight.

Unlike extensive beauty treatment, the naturopathic doctor’s suggestion is simple and requires just two steps – wash your face clean and massage it with castor oil at bedtime. I used a high-quality castor oil, which is cold-pressed, and stored in a glass bottle. It should be Hexane-free and shouldn’t smell foul.

You may want to use an extra cover for your pillowcase as the oil tends to rub off when you move around in sleep. I washed my face first thing in the morning. Unlike other oils, castor oil is thicker and sticks more. I used the regular face scrub to get rid of the excess oil.

My face felt smoother and shinier than ever. I didn’t have to apply a moisturizer immediately as the skin felt hydrated from the overnight face mask. However, it’s recommended to use sunscreen if you plan to step out.

Never step out in the sun with castor oil on your face as it can cause premature aging of your skin.

Castor oil has several benefits

In addition to its hydrating properties, castor oil is effective in treating dandruff too. The doctor suggests gently massaging the dry scalp with it at bedtime and washing it off in the morning.

It has an active component called Ricinoleic Acid, which is known to be an antimicrobial. “So it kills off bad bugs, and bacteria and has anti-inflammatory properties,” Dr. Janine explains.

If aloe vera and Vaseline home remedy wasn’t good enough to fix your cracked heel, try using castor oil – another healing benefit it boasts.
