Chelsea simply must go and sign £49m winger after missing out on Michael Olise – opinion

It seemed Chelsea had put all their eggs in one basket for a limited time when it came to making their next big signing.

It had been widely reported that the Blues were very keen on a deal to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace for the second consecutive summer window.

However, it emerged that the financial aspects surrounding the signing would make it very difficult to pull off, and they instead decided to withdraw from the process.

Attention is now going to turn to who the Blues look to next, with them still reportedly keen on signing a new winger this summer.

If they have been watching the European Championships, a clear candidate has emerged who the club should prioritise bringing in from now.

Chelsea should push to sign Nico Williams

Nico Williams has been a star for Spain in their opening fixtures at the competition, and has been a player on the radar of Chelsea before.

The 21-year-old has been one of the most forward-thinking and promising wingers seen so far, and the fact he now has some experience working alongside another Blue should be a real positive to those at Stamford Bridge.

He has been featuring ahead of Marc Cucurella, whose career resurgence has continued with some very impressive performances for his country to follow those for his club.

Williams regularly plays on the opposite wing to where Olise does, however it does feel as if the left is the side which needs a new addition more.

The club are still very keen on moving Raheem Sterling on, potentially opening up a spot for a new player to come and make his own.

While the financial aspect of this deal is likely to be difficult to pull off, it should be a priority for the decision makers at Stamford Bridge to bring him in ahead of next season.
