JetBlue’s Basic Economy airline tickets include carry-on bags now

JetBlue is including a carry-on bag with its Basic Economy fares starting on September 6, 2024.

JetBlue is including a carry-on bag with its Basic Economy fares starting this fall.

The feature starts on Sept. 6 and will apply to all Blue Basic tickets no matter when travelers purchased them.

“Carry-on bags are an important part of travel to customers, and when presented with a choice between JetBlue’s award-winning service and another carrier’s basic offering, we want JetBlue to be the easy winner,” JetBlue president Marty St. George said in a statement.

“We’re always looking for ways to evolve our offering in response to customer preferences. This is a win-win as we improve the customer experience and keep JetBlue competitive in our industry,” he added.

Once the policy goes into effect, Blue Basic passengers can bring aboard one carry-on bag and a personal item. However, Blue Basic fares will still require passengers to pay for their checked bags.

The current policy states that the first and second checked bags will cost $65 extra, and a third would cost $180.

Although passengers will be required to check their carry-on if there is no more space in overhead bins, they will not be charged any additional fees.

The new ticket offering is similar to those from three of JetBlue’s direct competitors — American Airlines, United and Delta — which allow one free carry-on and one free personal item. United, however, does permit passengers to check one piece of luggage for free on international flights across the Pacific Ocean.
