Report: Liverpool could yet move to sign £34m player who is currently in talks with Manchester United

Liverpool do need to strengthen their squad this summer, but wholesale changes are not expected under Arne Slot.

The new man in the dugout needs new faces to help ease his transition, but more important are the current star men at Anfield.

That group need to welcome Slot with open arms, and really put in the hard work behind the scenes that they gave Jurgen Klopp.

The former has already learned a lot about the latter and his workings, having watched many Liverpool games and training sessions.

The Dutchman also learned about a major issue for his predecessor, which involved the German complaining a lot about being handed so many early kick-offs.

Liverpool want Joshua Zirkzee despite Manchester United talks

One area in which Slot should certainly attempt to follow in Klopp’s footsteps is transfers, with the former Reds boss having done a superb job in that area.

According to CaughtOffside, one player the new manager admires is Joshua Zirkzee, who currently plays for Bologna.

The publication added, however, that the forward is progressing in talks with Liverpool’s fierce rivals Manchester United.

According to Sky Sports, the 23-year-old Netherlands international has a release clause of €40million (£34million).

Will Liverpool make a move for Joshua Zirkzee?

Zirkzee had a superb season in Italy, with the forward registering tallies of 12 goals and seven assists from his 37 matches in all competitions.

His efforts were key to helping secure Champions League football for Bologna next season, but whether or not he stays there beyond the summer to play in the tournament remains to be seen.

The 23-year-old’s participation in Europe’s elite club competition will, however, be unaffected with a move to Liverpool.

That would not be the case with a switch to Old Trafford, with Manchester United in the Europa League after their FA Cup success.

The Red Devils are, however, seemingly the most advanced club when it comes to securing the signature of the player.

But his current focus is undoubtedly on Euro 2024, even if Zirkzee has yet to play a single minute for the Netherlands so far.

He is not the only Liverpool target playing in the competition, with Germany star Joshua Kimmich also wanted by the Reds, although his future will only be decided after the tournament.
