Newcastle keeping tabs on 'one of England's most exciting prospects', he'll cost £50m - journalist

The Magpies are keeping an eye on an exciting young talent, according to a journalist.

Newcastle’s recruitment since the takeover in October 2021 has been near faultless with a number of the additions under Eddie Howe now considered to be some of the best players in the Premier League.

Alexander Isak, who is set to sign a new deal, and Bruno Guimaraes are testament to that notion, with Anthony Gordon now set to reach that territory.

Now, they are looking to add another highly-rated younger to their ranks, though, face competition from Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle keeping tabs on Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray

Amidst links to Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, a Newcastle insider has now had it confirmed that the club are also keeping tabs on Archie Gray.

Gray, who has been labelled as ‘one of England’s most exciting prospects’ as per TEAMtalk, is expected to cost potential suitors £50m.

The 18-year-old scooped the Championship’s Young Player of the Season award after a stellar breakthrough season.

He made a whopping 52 appearances across all competitions, including a man-of-the-match display against Chelsea in the FA Cup – which surely put a number of clubs on red alert.

Archie Gray profile

Gray is a box-to-box midfielder by trade but mainly operated at right-back last term, driving into midfield when Leeds were in possession.

The versatile 2006-born earned a call-up to the England under-21s in March and scored on his debut against Azerbaijan in a 5-1 victory.

If Newcastle were to land his highly sought-after signature, he’d provide great depth in midfield and at right-back.

Though, at this stage, it remains to be seen if The Magpies will be able to outlay a substantial amount due to Financial Fair Play constraints.

They may miss out to Tottenham Hotspur, who are also keen.
