Three Chelsea players who have a great opportunity to impress in pre-season this summer - opinion

Chelsea are set to make the trip to the United States again this summer as they prepare for the upcoming domestic season.

New manager Enzo Maresca will be looking at his squad to see who he deems ready to go into next season as part of the first team.

Last time out, Mauricio Pochettino went unbeaten during the trip around the States, however fans were left a little underwhelmed with what followed for the next few months.

There are no doubt a number of players who will be looking to make their mark, especially after not being able to do so last time around.

Here’s three current Chelsea players who have a great chance to prove themselves this summer.

Arguably the most unfortunate of Chelsea’s summer signings from 12 months ago, it was a mere 45 minutes on the pitch for Romeo Lavia last season.

Injuries completely wrecked his first campaign at Stamford Bridge, and it was decided a fair few weeks before the end of the season that he wouldn’t feature again under Pochettino.

It has perhaps been forgotten amongst many of the fanbase just how talented the youngster is, and reports have claimed that some at the club think he is perfect for the new manager and his system.

With Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo competing for minutes, impressing in pre-season would be a massive step to getting him some gametime next season.

Wesley Fofana

The Frenchman didn’t play a minute last season for the Blues after a serious knee injury a year ago ruled him out completely.

However, Wesley Fofana has been pictured making strides towards his recovery ahead of the upcoming pre-season campaign.

Many see the centre-back as the perfect partner for Levi Colwill for a defensive line for many years to come.

With many backlines likely to be tried and tested, he has a real opportunity to impress the new manager this summer.

Andrey Santos

Of all the players who were loaned out last season, there are perhaps none with a more promising future than Andrey Santos.

It has already been claimed that the club are keen to keep hold of him for the upcoming season, after the player himself said they wanted to last season as well.

There are a plethora of talented midfielders at the club, however the Europa Conference League offers a great opportunity to get some minutes under his belt.

He was very impressive in the prior pre-season campaign, and will be looking to do so again this time around.
