Report: Tottenham willing to sell 'invaluable' player as European giants enter race

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer clearout has already seen a number of big profile players leave the club and another could be set to follow.

Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy have wasted no time in offloading players they no longer see part of the future at Tottenham.

Big decisions have been made on players like Tanguy Ndombele with Spurs accepting the loss on the midfielder and terminating his contract.

But the north London side are yet to see any money come in when it comes to offloading their players this summer.

Spurs are not one of the clubs who are in danger of breaching PSR rules this month, but the club does have some players who could bring in a considerable sum of money if they were to be sold.

Borussia Dortmund showing interest in Tottenham outcast

Having been at the club for an entire year, Postecoglou has had the opportunity to fully assess the squad which he inherited from Antonio Conte‘s tenure.

It is fair to say the Australian made it pretty clear over the course of the 2023/24 campaign that there were some players who did not impress him.

The likes of Giovani Lo Celso was one of the casualties last season with minutes few and far between for the Argentine despite James Maddison‘s struggles with form.

And then there is the Denmark international Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to German outlet BILD, Borussia Dortmund have now entered the race to sign the Tottenham outcast.

With Hojbjerg said to be open to the idea of moving this summer, the report adds Spurs will be willing to sanction the midfielder’s exit for a ‘small fee’.

It is a league which Hojbjerg knows well having previously spent time at Bayern Munich before making the move to the Premier League.

Spurs must upgrade Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer

The irony of Hojbjerg’s expected departure comes after the midfielder put in a Man of the Match performance last week against England.

Hojbjerg has previously been hailed as ‘invaluable‘ to Tottenham by pundit Noel Whealan.

However, it is clear to see Hojbjerg does not enter the frame for Postecoglou when it comes to the Tottenham midfield.

Despite being an area of issues over the course of the 2023/24 campaign, the Dane only made eight starts in the Premier League.

With this in mind, Spurs need to hand Postecoglou stronger squad depth with an increased schedule coming their way next season.
