Player Jefferson Lerma recommended Dougie Freedman sign in January now sends message to Crystal Palace No.8

A player Jefferson Lerma recommended to Dougie Freedman in January has now been in touch with the Crystal Palace No.8 on Instagram.

The South American, and also Daniel Munoz, are the talk of Colombia right now after both scored in a 2-1 win over Paraguay at the Copa America on Monday.

After Jefferson Lerma posted about the victory on Instagram, a player Crystal Palace looked at signing in January responded…

Jhon Cordoba sends message to Jefferson Lerma

A story from the London Evening Standard in January revealed that Lerma had recommended his fellow Colombian Jhon Cordoba to Freedman.

It was said that Crystal Palace acknowledged his recommendation and were interested in the South American, amid doubts over the future of Jean-Philippe Mateta at the time, with Everton also keen.

Now, Cordoba has praised his friend Lerma, writing “beast, my little man 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾” on Instagram after the Crystal Palace maestro helped Colombia get off to a perfect start at the Copa America.

Crystal Palace could sign Colombia international to replace Odsonne Edouard

The South London Press recently revealed that Crystal Palace are looking to sell Odsonne Edouard this summer – and will accept a bid of £20m for the Frenchman.

That is a reasonable fee for a player who is clearly talented, but just hasn’t quite managed to nail down a regular spot in the starting XI since his £14m move from Celtic in August 2021.

Therefore, if someone stumps up the £20m asking price, it would not surprise us to see Freedman make a move for Cordoba.

The Colombian is admittedly 31 years of age – which goes against our current recruitment model – although that could mean he is more content to settle for a backup role, following the emergence of Mateta as Crystal Palace’s talisman in 2024.

Cordoba himself certainly knows where the back of the net is, having scored 18 goals in 32 appearances for Krasnodar last season.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Lerma and Munoz may soon have another Colombia joining them at Selhurst Park – in our view, at least…
