What Joachim Andersen did to Crystal Palace teammate Ebere Eze in 89th minute of England 1-1 Denmark

Thursday night saw three Crystal Palace players involved in games for their countries, one moment in particular was interesting.

England took on Denmark on Thursday evening in the second game for both nations in Euro 2024 as they met in Group C.

For Crystal Palace, this game was of particular significance as it featured every single Eagles player who is at the Euros this summer.

Joachim Andersen started for Denmark in a back three, while across from him was Marc Guehi at the back for England. Eberechi Eze also featured from the bench, while Adam Wharton and Dean Henderson remained on the bench.

In the game, the spoils were shared, but there was one moment which was interesting to see from an Eagles’ point of view.

What happened between Eze and Andersen in the 89th minute of England v Denmark

As the minutes ticked down toward the final whistle in Frankfurt on Thursday, Eze and Andersen had a coming together as they both looked to ensure points for their nations.

In the 89th minute, this came in the form of Eze dribbling through the middle of the park as England looked to counter-attack, only to be stopped in his tracks by his Selhurst Park teammate.

Andersen grabbed Eze almost by the collar of his England shirt and yanked him to the ground, forfeiting a tactical free-kick which slowed England’s forward momentum.

After he did this, Andersen was spotted running away from the scene of his crime with a smile on his face. This is likely an event which will be brought up at Copers Cope in August once both have returned.

How all three Palace players fared on Thursday night at EURO 2024

None of the players from Palace will be happy with the result on Thursday night as a win was desired.

England were very poor throughout and while Guehi was better than his defensive partner John Stones, he failed to match the levels he showed vs Serbia, with a few sloppy errors that he did tidy up well in fairness.

Eze was a 69th-minute substitute and despite a few bright moments, he ultimately succumbed to the sloppiness that the entire England squad were struggling to overcome in the game.

The happiest of the three will be Andersen as a point for Denmark will have been less of a blow and he was formidable in the air for Denmark. Despite that, it was by no means a notable performance from the great Dane who now likely needs a win against Serbia.
