Manchester City and their supporters have had the pleasure of seeing a lot of impressive midfielders play for the club and win numerous trophies in the process.
Names such as David Silva, Yaya Toure, Kevin De Bruyne, Frank Lampard and Patrick Vieira are just some of the top midfield stars that have represented the Citizens over the years.
With Pep Guardiola’s side having won their sixth Premier League title in seven years at the end of the previous campaign, one current top-flight player has suggested that one of City’s midfield stars is better than another one of the most popular midfielders English football has seen.
Conor Gallagher ranks Rodri over David Beckham
In a recent video uploaded on the England national team’s official TikTok channel, Conor Gallagher was blind ranking 10 past and present Premier League stars.
After putting David Beckham in fourth place, the Chelsea midfielder had this to say when Rodri’s name eventually came up in the ranking.
He said: “Rodri. Have to go three, great player.”
Rodri has been one of City’s best signings
Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium back in 2019, the £220k-a-week midfielder has appeared in 172 Premier League games, scoring 22 goals, delivering 21 assists and winning four titles.
In comparison, Beckham scored 62 goals, supplied 83 assists and won six Premier League trophies across his spell at Manchester United.
Looking back over Rodri’s most recent title-winning campaign with the Blues, the 28-year-old racked up more shot-creating actions (157), goal-creating actions (23), recoveries (235) and successful tackles (23) than any other City player.
Back in May, Micah Richards said that he thinks the City star is the best defensive-midfielder in the world right now.
Given how prominent the Spain international has been in the City team during their recent run of domestic and European success, it’s clear that he has been a top signing for the club.
In terms of Gallagher’s ranking, it should delight a lot of City supporters to see him put Rodri above Beckham given his United connection.
