Chelsea face competition from Aston Villa for £25m target

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed via X that Chelsea are joined by Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the race to sign Hoffenheim and Germany forward Maximilian Beier.

It is explained that the Blues and Villa have “concrete interest” in the 21-year-old star.

Apparently, Beier’s release clause in his deal with German Bundesliga club Hoffenheim is worth around €30m (£25m).

This comes after Plettenberg previously reported on X that Chelsea are in the race alongside Bayer Leverkusen to sign Hoffenheim’s Beier. Apparently, the young striker wants to leave his club this summer if he finds the right fit.

Maximilian Beier a promising young talent

It’s quite the achievement for Beier to make the cut for Germany’s squad at the Euros.

The young attacker has only broken into the senior international squad in 2024, so he’s done well to make the cut for the 26-man group at the major tournament.

He watched from the bench Germany’s opening two group stage matches, but he played 25 minutes in the recent 1-1 draw against Switzerland.

Beier is definitely a player on the rise after 16 Bundesliga league goals last season for Hoffenheim in 33 matches.

It would be another punt on a promising youngster if Chelsea ramp up this interest, though.
