Danish media react to Joachim Andersen's display for Denmark v Serbia

On Tuesday night there were a couple of Crystal Palace players in action, here’s how Joachim Andersen fared for Denmark.

On Tuesday night we saw the conclusion of Group C at the Euros 2024, and it ended with Marc Guehi’s England on top and Denmark in second place.

Despite that, none of the four teams really made it seem as though they wanted to progress, with both games ending 0-0.

After the result, Crystal Palace’s Danish centre-back Joachim Andersen has seen his display reviewed by the country’s media.

Here’s what they’ve been writing about the defender who will hopefully still be at Selhurst Park next season.

How Danish media reacted to Joachim Andersen

As Denmark heads through to the round of 16, the media in the country has reacted to how the Eagles’ centre-back performed.

DR was one outlet to review his display with a 7/12 match rating and added a review: “The defender from English Crystal Palace mistimed a single intervention in the first half, but otherwise fought brilliantly against especially his former teammate from Fulham, Aleksandar Mitrovic. It was almost over in the second half when Joachim Andersen also sent the ball into his own net but was saved by an offside.”

His performance was lauded by BT: “He dominated in his defensive duels, and then he was much-needed foresight in his passes. Must have changed his underpants because of the cancelled own goal. But that beef with Mitrovic says it all about how annoying the defender was for the Serbians.”

Sport TV2 handed Andersen a 5 before writing: “Took a number of tough duels with Aleksandar Mitrovic. And we just held our breath when the Serbian overturned in the penalty area. Did not make an impression on the attacking game. It wasn’t that kind of night. Not as strong in the air as Vestergaard.”

From Tips Bladet a match rating of 3/5 was issued and the outlet argued Andersen was okay but not impressive: “Hang on, how lucky was Joachim Andersen that he didn’t score a crazy own goal. The Danish stopper was saved by a (correct) offside ruling in the second half. Solid effort in the central defence, and there was even the ability to drive the ball forward a few times, but Joachim Andersen blew no one away with his performance.”

Finally, Bold rated Andersen harshly a 3/10: “It actually started very well, but as the first half progressed, Joachim Andersen’s level fell. The normally strong stopper was unfamiliar with the ball and at times panicked in a way that does not belong in a final round. Was saved by the gong shortly into the second half with a clumsy own goal that raised the volume to the highest of the night from the Serbian fans.”

How Andersen played for Denmark

As the Danish media explained, Andersen put in a display which Oliver Glasner would have liked to see as he played the entire game once again.

Andersen proved why in this era of change at Palace, he is one player who should remain and can handle to newfound ambitions at the club.

He had a whopping 95 touches of the football and completed 66 passes in doing so. FotMob also showed that he made nine defensive actions, five clearances, and two interceptions while winning 11 duels.

Proving himself an impeccable defender once again, Andersen was impressive and deserves his praise, even if some Danish outlets didn’t give him it.
