'In the last 24-48 hours': Liverpool have just called club to try and sign their 'fantastic' player - Romano

Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on what Liverpool have done to try and sign one of their key summer transfer targets.

Arne Slot is at the helm now, and it will be interesting to see what he will do in his first season as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

The Reds are expected to be active in this summer’s transfer window. They could do with reinforcements in multiple areas of their pitch.

Slot will surely have an eye on a few targets, and Romano has now shared an update on one of them.

What Liverpool have called and told Lille about Leny Yoro

Leny Yoro is expected to leave Lille this summer.

The 18-year-old has quickly emerged as one of the best young centre-backs in the world. He is hugely talented, so much so that Yoro has been described as the ‘Kylian Mbappe of defenders’.

The Reds really like Yoro and people inside Liverpool think he will be a ‘fantastic’ player. But, the teenager’s preferred destination is Real Madrid in this summer’s transfer window.

That puts the Galacticos in the driving seat for his signature, but it’s still unclear whether Carlo Ancelotti’s side will pursue a move to sign him this summer.

So, Liverpool are still in the race, as are their fierce Premier League rivals Manchester United. French champions Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Yoro too.

Romano has now revealed that the three clubs mentioned above called Lille ‘in the last 24-48 hours’ to make it clear that they want to sign Yoro if his move to Real Madrid breaks down.

Speaking on Playback, Romano said: “Leny Yoro keeps insisting on Real Madrid. His priority is Real Madrid. I can guarantee that all the other clubs, also Manchester United, in the least 24-48 hours, called Lille again to tell them that the interest remains.

“So, not just Liverpool and PSG, also Manchester United in the last 24-48 hours, in direct contacts, made all parties of the Leny Yoro deal aware of their interest by saying: ‘In case the deal with Real Madrid collapses, we are here, we would like to enter the story for Leny Yoro’.

“So, Leny Yoro wants to go to Real Madrid, Leny Yoro is giving priority to Real Madrid, Leny Yoro wants Real Madrid since October-November, it’s not something new. But, it depends on Real Madrid.

“If Real Madrid wants to close the deal, Yoro will be their player because he wants to go there, no doubt. But in case they don’t complete the deal, PSG, Liverpool and also Man United, in the last 24-48 hours, called for Leny Yoro and confirmed their genuine interest.”

Yoro’s stats in 2023/24 shows why Liverpool want to sign him

Yoro could become the next big thing in Europe.

The Frenchman, still only 18 years old, played 32 times for Lille in Ligue 1 in the 2023/24 season. He was excellent for them.

Yoro averaged 1.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, three clearances and 3.9 ball recoveries per game. He didn’t make a single error leading to a goal in the entire season (SofaScore).

Those are some really impressive numbers for someone who is still just 18, and that’s why massive clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester United are keen to sign him.

It will be interesting to see where Yoro will end up in the coming weeks.
