Daniel Levy has cut a controversial figure since becoming chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, often splitting the opinion of fans during his time at the club. Here is everything you need to know about the Spurs chairman.

Labelled as one of the toughest negotiators in football, Daniel Levy first became involved with Tottenham back in 2001, when ENIC bought a stake in the Lilywhites.

Currently the longest-serving chairman in the Premier League, Levy’s time at the helm of Spurs has brought huge success off the pitch, with club’s commercial capacity vastly improving over the past decade.

Some fans however, remain sceptical of their chairman, often growing frustrated at the lack of ambition on the pitch, particularly when it comes to winning silverware.

Daniel Levy is currently 62-years-old, having been born on 8 February 1962. The Spurs chairman was born in Essex, England.

Wife and family

Daniel Levy is married to his former PA, Tracey Dixon, and they have four children together.

Education

Levy studied Economics and Land Economy at Cambridge University, graduating with a first-class honours degree in 1985. Daniel recently re-visited his former university back in 2023, taking part in a Cambridge Union Q/A.

Religion

The Spurs chairman’s Jewish religion has been well documented over the years, having been born to Jewish parents in the 1960’s. Since taking over as Chairman, Levy has been the target of a number of antisemitic chants/abuse, he has however has never commented on the abuse he has had to face.

Is Daniel Levy a Spurs fan?

Levy is a boyhood Tottenham fan, having attended his first Spurs match (vs QPR) back in the 1960s with his father.

Speaking to the Standard, he said: “I remember coming here with my uncle more than 50 years ago to watch my first game against QPR, wearing a huge rosette.

“It is hard to pick out one single memory as a favourite, as there have been so many. I’m always clear that we are merely the custodians of the club — it was here long before any of us and will be here long after us all.”

Levy has reeked the rewards of Tottenham’s commercial growth over the past decade, with the club’s new £1 billion stadium being a huge financial success.

Daniel Levy was involved his fathers clothing business Blue Inc, formerly known as Mr Byrite. Levy has also been involved in property development before teaming up with British billionaire, Joe Lewis, to form ENIC. He has been the managing director of the ENIC group since 1995.

Does Daniel Levy own Tottenham?

The Spurs chairman owns 29.4% of ENIC, the business which owns 85.6% of the club. ENIC has owned Tottenham Hotspur since December 2000, purchasing a majority 29.9% stake in the club. Later gaining full control of the club in 2007, after buying Sir Alan Sugar’s remaining shares in the club.
